Tearing Down the Walls (TT Records 1999) - Multi-talented E.G. Daily delivers a strong solo outing in
Tearing Down the Walls. Mixing Los Angeles pop with dance sensibilities, the album is a showcase
for 10 years of songs accumulated by Daily.
Which is to say, Daily has a past. E.G. recorded two solo for A&M records in the 80s, which yielded the club hit "Love in the Shadows," and has starred in more than 15 feature films, including "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" and "Valley Girl."
Yet Daily is probably best known as the voice of Tommy Pickles on Nickelodeon's top-rated Rugrats. Daily also provided the voice of Babe in the recent feature film "Babe: Pig in the City," and contributed the song "Heart Beats True" to the soundtrack.
Musicians on the album include Daniel Alexander on keyboards, Jeff Kluesner on guitars, Ralf Balzer on drums, and Jeff McEleroy on bass.
The mother of two preschoolers would not wait for a record company to pick up this self-made effort. Explains E.G., "I wanted to finish my painting. From the beginning to the end, I wanted to know it was completed the way I wanted it to be; 100% my artistic concept."
Tracks like "I Can't Wait" show influences of Paula Abdul, while there are a number of reflective ballads, including "Pretty Baby." Explains Daily, "It has to unfold organically. Otherwise, it just doesn't work." In addition, "White Train" has elements of Vonda Shepard, with it's piano-based ballad style.
A top gun of the voice-over industry, E.G. Daily has solid vocal skills. Give a listen to Tearing Down the Walls.
