The
Alice Project, The Big Number (Clown
Milk Records 1998) - The Alice Project is a polished pop/rock band from
New York, headlined by singer Alice Leon.
With a decade's experience as a performing artist, Leon shows a deft touch
on this enjoyable release.
In
addition to handling lead vocalists, Leon wrote and arranged all of the
songs, and plays acoustic guitar. Rounding out the band are Scott
Monetti, who provides keyboards and percussions, Scott
Strunk on drums and percussions,
Mickey Angel
on lead guitars, and Jim Arra
on bass guitar and backing vocals.
Singer
Alice Leon has solid credentials, having written songs for the soap opera
"The Guiding Light," and appearing twice on Star Search.
The best track on the album is the radio-friendly
pop number, "Jane is on the Phone (on the Island)," with its
catchy beat and polyrhythmic sound. Also moving beyond the dorky cover
are such pop numbers as "Good Bye Old Friend" and "Shine
on Me."
All told, The Big Number has an easygoing and accessible sound.
